HURCON 1 Status
We are now at HURCON 1 status. It appears likely that Tropical Storm Nicole will strengthen into a hurricane and make landfall in Florida. Current path projections suggest it will strike the Hernando County area as a tropical storm.
From Maj. Hernandez:
FLWG has now established Hurricane Condition 1 (HURCON 1) in preparation for Tropical Storm Nicole. This storm is expected to intensify into a hurricane within the next few hours.
As directed by FLWG/CC, the squadron must report attainment of HURCON 1 when sustained surface winds of 39 mph or greater associated with tropical cyclone activity are expected within 12 hours. At this time, forecast sustained winds in the Hernando County area will be 30-40 knots with at least 2-4 inches of rain. The event impacts our Hernando county area from late Wednesday through Thursday afternoon. So be prepared and stay tuned for update information. All CAP events and meetings remain canceled until further notice.

Continue to monitor local news, the FLWG and squadron websites, squadron social media, and any Wing email for updates and changes on HURCONs.
I urge all our members to shelter in place in the safest location available. Stay safe and remember to use situational awareness in this storm event. One of the biggest threats to safety in this event will come from flying debris and downed power lines that are still energized. So be aware of your surroundings as you venture out post storm.
