November 8, 2022

News Item Image

We are now at HURCON 2 status. It appears likely that this will change in the coming days as Tropical Storm Nicole is expected to further intensify and move toward the state.

From Maj. Hernandez:

FLWG has now established Hurricane Condition 2 (HURCON 2) in preparation for Sub-Tropical Storm Nicole.

As directed by FLWG/CC, the squadron must report attainment of HURCON 2 when sustained surface winds of 39 mph or greater associated with tropical cyclone activity are expected within 24 hours.   At this time, forecast winds in the Hernando County area could approach 40-50 knots with 2-4 inches of rain.  The event impacts our area from Wednesday evening into Thursday afternoon.  So be prepared and stay tuned for update information.   As reported in yesterday's HURCON update, all CAP events and meetings are canceled until further notice.

Individual Members are requested to:

  • Ensure your contact information in eServices is up to date.

  • Ensure your CAPF-161 is updated.  Submitting an updated form is not needed at this time but you are requested to have a copy ready to be prepared.

  • Prepare a Basic Disaster Supplies Kit as described in https://www.ready.gov/kit

  • Continue to monitor local news, the FLWG and squadron websites, squadron social media, and any Wing email for updates and changes on HURCONs.
